Clothes maketh a man. We all invest in affordable clothing to protect ourselves from harsh climate as well as to look good. Even though we might spend prudently on clothes, yet, we allow ourselves to splurge on luxury items sometimes. Be it a designer bag or a well fitting dress, it makes the proud owner feel on top of the world. We normally have sweaters, coats, jumpers and gloves to fight winter, But do you have a Cashmere Scarf in your winter wardrobe? No? Let me tell you why you should have one! Cashmere is the fur of a mountain goat. This goat is found in the plateaus around the Gobi desert. The Gobi desert stretches from Northern China to Mongolia. This goat has two coats of fur, the outer coarse fur and the inner fine cashmere. The inner coat actually protects it from the harsh winter. At the end of winter the outer coat is shed. The inner coat is combed by hand in spring. The fleece is also sorted by hand. The machines used to manufacture cashmere fabrics are hand operated. Cashmere obtained from the stomach and throat of the goat is of finer quality than that from other parts of its body. As cashmere is scarcely available it is very expensive. It is considered a luxury item. It is soft and smooth with silky texture. A Cashmere Scarf from China would be affordable as cashmere is available in abundance in China and the cost of labor is also low. Cashmere is found in India, Iran as well as Tibet. A little is available in Mongolia, too. It was considered so valuable in the olden days that Mongolian kings would present it to their loved ones. A Cashmere Scarf protects the neck from the harsh winter. It acts as an insulator. You will find a variety of these scarves in high end stores and boutiques. They are available in different shapes, sizes and patterns. You could get them online, too. You need not rummage through scarves in stores when you can view each one on the internet. You can avoid the maddening crowd and buy scarves from the comfort of your home. Cashmere is a natural material, so, it retains heat. You could choose among plain colors, patterns, small or large checks, stripes, etc. Cashmere is versatile and light weight. It is so durable that it will last you a lifetime. You have to wash your Cashmere Scarf by hand. Use mild soap or shampoo to clean it or give it for dry clean. Place it on a towel to dry as it may lose its shape if placed on a hanger. Check its label in the store. If it says “100% cashmere” the scarf is made of pure cashmere. If it says “Cashmere” then other fibers are blended with cashmere. Stretch it to see if it loses its shape on release. If it does, its fibers are loose and the quality of cashmere is poor. If it doesn’t, the quality is the best.
